Phishing is a technique employed by criminals to get hold of your personal information

A phishing email will have the look and feel of an authentic email. It can take many forms. It can be a job offer or it can be about your winning a lottery or about security breaches in your bank account etc. The e-mail usually encourages you to click a link in order to update your personal information. When you click the link, you may be asked to enter your personal information, such as your name, address, date of birth, ATM / Debit card number, password etc. If you provide these details, the fraudsters can steal your identity as well as your funds. Therefore, if you receive such e-mails, that appear to be from Dhanlaxmi Bank and if they ask you to provide your personal information, please ignore the e-mail and never try to open that link.

1)  How can I protect myself from Phishing?

• While you are logging into Dhanbank official website, always check the URL address given in the address bar. URL address on the address bar of your internet browser begins with 'https '; the letter 's' at the end of 'https ' means 'secured'.
• Dhanlaxmi Bank never sends e-mail and embedded links asking you to provide personal details such as your Account number, Debit Card number, ATM PIN or Online Banking passwords. If you receive such e-mails, never respond to them.
• When you want to login to Dhanlaxmi Bank internet banking site, please type www.dhanbank.com in the address bar of the browser and then click the Internt banking link provided at the home page. Never make use of links provided / stored anywhere else.

2)  How can I identify phishing emails?

Some tips to identify Phishing mails are:

1. Mails from Anonymous sender ID:

Always cross check the sender ID before taking any action on the received mail.

2. Mails with attractive offers:

Beware of fake mails offering anonymous lump sum rewards.

3. Different URL:

Hacker tend to create very similar site URL to the original one. Therefore, it is very important to carefully check the site URL.

4. Identity theft:

Fake mails tend to ask for your credentials to conduct data theft.

5. Minor spelling errors:

Lookout for any spelling errors as well as logo for any non-identical mail.

6. Unsecure Hyperlink:

Cross check if you have been redirect to the link that is secure (https), or to an unsecure hyperlink (http).

7. Sense of Emergency

You may also receive e-mails which convey a sense of emergency or threat. Example: 'Your account will be closed or temporarily suspended if you don't provide us the information.
